Developed during pandemic downtime, Stallone says the point of the director’s cut is to go back in time and get the film right, turning what he admits was “mostly montage” into an actual drama. Although it’s not immediately clear that anyone asked for this reboot, upon watching the 90-minute documentary about the making of this director’s cut, it is clear that Stallone is excited to give it to us.
